The wood is not the thick expensive style of course for this price, but we love it. Just the bed we needed for our 4 and 2y olds. I wanted storage for a small room and the stairs and the drawer give tons of it and clean up is easy. Best thing that it can be taken apart into 2 beds if they do not like bunk beds anymore. They told us stairs can go on the left site too-be warned that would entail some wood work and changes that need to be made, we opted for keeping them on the right at the end. I have no problem laying in it with my girls on top or bottom (I am 125lbs).
